Abnormal beginnings! Xxx

Weird. That's what everyone calls me. I'm unschooled. And I'm a vegetarian. People think I'm odd. Maybe I am, but they don't even know what unschooled means. Being unschooled is a little like being homeschooled. You don't do homework, though. You learn from everyday life. You don't just sit with a textbook or whatever. You have adventures. I think some people think being homeschooled or unschooled means you're anti social or something. I'm pretty sure I talk to people. Sure, I don't have as many friends as someone who goes to school, but I have friends of all ages. I have about 15 close friends. Most of them are a year or two older, or a year ot two younger, but we get along. I want people to understand; we're not social outcasts. Or illiterate idiots. Most of my friends that go to school have horrible grammar while mine is good. See? My brothers and I have been unschooled our whole lives and we're doing just great. I'm 13. My older brother, Isaac, is 15. My little brother, Eric, is 10. We go to sleep whenever we want. Ha. We don't have complete freedom and most kids don't. We sound weird, right? Yeah.

I think that a child has the right to do whatever they want. I hear a lot of parents telling their kids, "You have to go to school to learn and go to college." That's not true. I plan on going to college after I pass a GED test in a few years. Most homeschooled and unschooled kids go to college before they even turn 18. And why do people still think school is good...? Yeah. I think if a parent has the time, they should unschool. Maybe some kids go to school because their parents are busy. But some parents just don't want to see the kid for 8 hours a day. Yeah, most parents are like that. My family is different in so many ways. I've had to deal with so much since I was 7 and I don't really like to talk about it. My mom is Cuban and you can hear her family from a mile away. Seriously. And my aunt lives a mile away! Ha. I've struggled with trying to fit in, even in my own neighborhood and I realize; Why should I? It's insane what girls my age dress like. It's insane they have very, very serious boyfriends. I know no one really cares about a 13 year olds opinions or adventures or anything, but I'm going to share. Every time I go to the beach, I'll share. Every time I hang out with my friends on Fridays, I'll share. Maybe someone will read this? Maybe another unschooled teenager trying to understand people? Hmph. Unlikely. Or... very likely? I don't know. But, I'll keep you posted, you wide web of Internet!

-Micat, the weird one. Xoxoxo
